We here at The Woodland Cultural Centre are pleased to announce that we are once again selling and now taking orders for Orange Shirt Day, 2019!
Orange Shirt Day first started in British Columbia, inspired by the memories of a survivor who recalled how her grandmother had purchased a brand new orange shirt for her first day at school, only to have it taken away and never seen again upon her admission. In honour of her and of all who attended residential schools, we now don orange shirts every September 30th. This striking visual reminder testifies to what was lost due to residential schools, but also works as a means for us to support our Survivors in their healing journeys, and to reassert our continued thriving existence as Indigenous peoples and their allies. Orders for schools and classes are to be submitted by June 12, 2019. Organizers will be notified when their orders are ready to pick up.
