The Fur Trade room in the museum offers visitors the opportunity to see a variety of tools, beads, jewelry, and furs that the Hodinohsho:ni would have traded during the 1600 and 1700’s. FUN FACT: A typical trade at that time would be a handful of glass beads for one beaver pelt. Although this does not seem like a fair trade, many First Nations people did not think of trade in the monetary sense that we do today. They thought of it as a way to free up their time and it took them a lot less time and work to prepare one beaver belt for trade than it would to create a handful of their own shell, clay, wood, bone, or stone beads.
