About the Project:
Woodland Cultural Centre is seeking an Illustrative Animator to produce a short 1-2-minute biographical film rooted in narrative storytelling, cultural identity, and visual creativity. We’re seeking a skilled 2-D Animator to bring this project to life through expressive movement, character-driven animation, and strong visual storytelling.
Role Review:
The Artist will work closely with the Community Stories Coordinator on a collaborative basis, working together with the expertise and artistic vision of the Animator to complete the following:
- Produce animatic based on research and script.
- Collaborate with the project coordinator to ensure tone, timing, and pacing meet story goals.
- Deliver a complete animated short by the project deadline, ideally working alongside sound designers to create a cohesive story and presentation.
- Participate in regular check-ins and respond to notes in a timely manner.
- Ensure final assets meet delivery specifications and timelines.
Overview of Required Skills and Knowledge:
The Animator shall have:
- Proven experience in 2D animation for film, TV, or digital media (portfolio/reel required)
- Proficiency in industry-standard animation software
- Strong understanding of timing, weight, performance, and emotion in animation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicating clearly with a remote project manager.
- Experience working with Indigenous storytelling modalities.
