September 18, 2024 – Public Virtual Screening of Silent No More Film

The Woodland Cultural Centre presents a screening Silent No More: A Virtual Tour of the Former Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School on Wednesday September 18 at 6:00pm.

The former Mohawk Institute Residential School (Mush Hole) was the longest operating residential school in Canada. A building created to destroy Indigenous identity and heritage is now the home of the Woodland Cultural Centre, a site dedicated to the revitalization of Hodinohsho:ni cultures and languages.

September 25, 2024 – Public Virtual Truth and Reconciliation Presentation

Join the Woodland Cultural Centre for our September Truth and Reconciliation Presentation happening on the 25th at 6:00pm. Your donation will help support our education department to create and deliver virtual programming at the Woodland Cultural Centre. We want to continue to deliver the highest quality programs centered on a Hodinohsho:ni worldview, celebrating, and sharing Indigenous cultures, languages, and art.

This comprehensive presentation covers topics from the Imperial context, Canada’s Indigenous Policy, the Indian Residential Schools Settlement agreement, to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

September 30, 2024 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Join the Woodland Cultural Centre to Honour Orange Shirt Day on September 30th!

Come together with us to remember and honour the history and resilience of Indigenous peoples at the Woodland Cultural Centre!

Join us for a full day of programming from 1PM – 6PM, including:

  • Screening of the film Silent No More
  • Survivor Talk and Q&A
  • Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) activities
  • And more!

A BBQ will be available starting at 4 PM, followed by a Social at 5 PM. The first 200 attendees will receive an educational resource bag with valuable TRC information!

Join us on October 7th from 5:00-8:00pm at Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Centre for an exciting Community Social in collaboration with Brantford Native Housing, De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre, and BRISC!

Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community, we’ve had to relocate to a larger venue to accommodate everyone. Come join us for a night filled with art, dancing, singing, drumming, and delicious food.
