Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) is excited to announce the upcoming virtual film screening of the musical documentary “The Road Forward” on February 21, 2021 at 7PM. This event is part of the Teioia’ks iakwatero:roks “We Watch Movies” Film Series. Join us together with Patricia Deadman, Curator (WCC) for a viewing of the film followed by a question and answer period.
The film The Road Forward connects a pivotal moment in Canada’s civil rights history, the beginnings of Indian Nationalism in the 1930s with the powerful momentum of First Nations activism today. Shot in musical sequences, performed by an ensemble of some of Canada’s finest vocalists and musicians, seamlessly connect past and present with blues, rock and traditional beats. Woodland Cultural Centre is excited to bring virtual programming, and film screenings that are not only available to local community members but now can be available to anyone, anywhere with a computer and wifi connection.
Featuring local artists and speakers Murray Porter, Cheri Maracle and Jennifer Kreisburg, the Road Forward uses song and melody to tell a powerful story. This film was based on a live performance that many enjoyed in person and now with technology, can continue to experience globally.
WCC welcomes all community members to join this virtual film screening, and admissions are by donation only. The Arts department has a suggested donation of $5 to help the Arts department continue to provide digital programming during these challenging times.
