James Beaver is an artist from the late 19th - early 20th century, who is perhaps best known for his paintings of private homes and businesses, but was also known for his truly magnificant natural landscapes and as a wood carver. Beaver's work is unique in that he is celebrated as the first Haudenosaunee from Six Nations (of the Cayuga nation specifically) to utilize the European style of painting.
