This catalogue celebrates the works of James Beaver, featured as an exhibit here at Woodland Cultural Centre in 2015. James Beaver is an artist from the late 19th – early 20th century, who is perhaps best known for his paintings of private homes and businesses, but was also known for his truly magnificant natural landscapes and as a wood carver. Beaver’s work is unique in that he is celebrated as the first Haudenosaunee from Six Nations (of the Cayuga nation specifically) to utilize the European style of painting. Featured in this catalogue are some of Woodland’s permanent collection of James Beaver’s works, marking this collection as truly unique.
