What’s the story behind the ribbon dress?
North America was colonized by several European countries and these various nations brought a wide assortment of goods to the continent to be traded with native groups.
A lot of ordinary objects from Europe had a high market value for Indigenous tribes. Native peoples would adapt the purpose and uses of a lot of those items. Which is what happened with silk ribbons, which were used by Woodland Indians to create a form of appliqué decoration that Europeans had never seen before.
Participants will create their own ribbon dress and shirt.
