Moving Forward Together

September 29, 2017 @ 10:00 am - September 30, 2017 @ 2:00 pm

The Woodland Cultural Centre will welcome Survivors of the Residential School
system from Six Nations, Northern Ontario, and Quebec for the first annual Moving Forward Together
Survivor’s Gathering, a two-day event September 29th and 30th. Moving Forward Together will focus on
the healing journey of the Survivor of Residential Schools, their families and support networks, and
support from surrounding communities.
In association with Ontario Indian Residential School Survivor Services, the Woodland Cultural Centre
will welcome Survivors on September 29th for a day of healing workshops and activities. The Keynote
Address will be delivered by noted author and spiritual leader Tom Porter, Bear Clan. Evening
entertainment provided by the incomparable Cec Sault.
A healing walk in support of Survivors will take place down the walkway of the Woodland Cultural
Centre, site of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School, on Saturday, September 30th beginning at
11am. Supporters will be encouraged to write words of healing and encouragement to Survivors in chalk
along the walkway, and are welcome to bring signs featuring supportive messages.
Participants are invited to wear an orange shirt in honour of Orange Shirt Day; a day which honours
Residential School Survivors across Canada. Orange shirts will be available for purchase at the Woodland
Cultural Centre for $20 with proceeds going to support the Save the Evidence campaign.
